Welcome to Chengdu, China to participate the 9th World Biomaterials Congress in 2012! A glimpse of Chengdu: Area: 12,300 square km Population: 10.285 million (with more than 3.5 million living in the urban areas) Climate: the subtropical monsoon climate makes the city warm and humid throughout the year. The annual average temperature is 15.2-16.7 degrees centigrade. The average temperature in Oct. is approximate 15-20 degrees centigrade. Administrative Division: 8 districts, 4 cities and 7 counties. Position: It has become West China’s center of science, technology, commerce, trade and finance and hub of communication and telecommunications. It is also a famous tourist city in West China. There are many World Cultural Heritages in/around Chengdu city. Communications: Chengdu is one of China’s eight first-class processing centers of post and telecommunications. It can directly dial numbers to more than 180 countries and regions in the world and more than 600 cities in China. The city is West China’s Internet center. The Chengdu Information Harbor has opened the IDC and IXC. Airline Transportation: For the symposium attendants in Asian area, there are 14 international airlines can directly fly to Chengdu international airport from Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Pusan, Singapore, Bangkok, Hongkong, et al. For the delegates from outside Asia area, Beijing, Shanghai and Hongkong may be selected as transfer city. It takes about 2 hr and 20 min to Chengdu from the cities. There are more than 10 flights from Beijing as well as from Shanghai to Chengdu every day. The flights to Chengdu from Hongkong are also available every day. A connecting flight to directly transfer to Chengdu from USA, Canada, Europe, Russia also is available. Shopping: There are many modern international chain stores including Carrefour and PriceSmart, and famous international famous-brand stores in Chengdu. Meanwhile, the shopping centers with national features, such as Qintai Shopping Road and Chunxi Shopping Road are always crowded in Chengdu. The folk custom: the Traditional Teahouse Culture Sichuan Opera “Chengdu Snacks” and “Sichuan Cuisine” Visa A visa to the mainland of China can be obtained at the local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese traveling agents with the symposium invitation letter that can be sent to the participants if required.
