National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials (NERCB), the first opening national institute for biomaterials was approved to found by the State Ministry of Science and Technology in 1999,is an independent entity with legal status, which relies on Sichuan University and runs according to the law of market-oriented economy combining the characteristics of research. The initiatory funds for construction were from the State Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Sichuan Province,   Sichuan University and Quanxing Group Co. Ltd. Sichuan Guojia Biomaterials Engineering Inc., is the agent of NERCB to carry out its business activities. Chinese Committee for Biomaterials (CCBM) is attached to the center
.Engineering & Technology Committee acts as the counselor and consultant of the center.

    NERCB is an incubator for advanced biomaterials industry. Its main objectives are: to research and develop innovatory biomaterials, medicalimplants, tissue engineering, the skills for clinical applications and
advanced manufacture technology; to accept post doctor, train graduate students for Ph.D or Master and carry out continues education depending on the key specialty of biomedical engineering in Sichuan University; to gather and communicate the information concerned to biomaterials science and engineering. There is a stomatology implantation hospital and 5 clinical research centers are attached to the center.
